About Us

Czech Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies

The Czech Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies is an open, independent, and non-profit organization (association), that brings together those interested in the academic study of 18th-century topics.

The Society was founded on 13 March 1999 in Prague with the aim of supporting interdisciplinary research into the post-White Mountain history of the Bohemian lands, and of developing activities either directly based on or inspired by scientific research. Its mission is to connect researchers from various disciplines on a shared organizational platform, provide information about their work, facilitate important contacts, and create space for professional meetings, lectures, and discussions.

Activities of the Society

The society is an active member of the International Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (ISECS), which was founded in 1963 and now brings together nearly six thousand researchers from thirty-four national societies, research centres, and interest groups. The Czech branch represents domestic 18th-century research at the international level. It disseminates information about its members and their activities via its website and regularly participates in international conferences.

The core of the society’s activities lies in organizing interdisciplinary biennials and publishing the scholarly journal Cornova.
